Hollister council members Monday night are set to consider several items that could directly affect the public.

Monday’s meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. at Hollister City Hall, 375 Fifth St.

Dunne Park Roof Repair
Council members are set to consider a resolution to appropriate $15,000 to repair the Dunne Park Clubhouse roof. According to the meeting’s agenda, years of neglect and vandalism have caused multiple leaks in the roof. A repair would benefit residents who use the clubhouse for birthday parties, meetings, and other events, according to an agenda report.

Tree Replacement
Two resolutions on the agenda deal with trees, the first of which allows the City of Hollister to sign an agreement with Quality Tree Care to remove troublesome trees, primarily west of San Benito Street. Roots from the trees have crept up under the sidewalks, which now need repair. But sidewalk work goes beyond the concrete. According to the meeting’s agenda, a certified arborist has determined that 131 trees need removal to prevent further damage from root systems.

The second tree resolution covers any that are replaced with root barriers. City staff members recommend the council to authorize funds not to exceed $88,000 to cover tree replacement.

Previously on June 20, the council awarded a construction contract for the Sidewalk and Street Improvement Project, which allocated $293,442.39 for sidewalk replacement. The proposed tree removal contract will cost $194,000. Combine that with the $88,000 for tree replacement, and the total project cost—if approved—is $575,442.39.

Library Impact Fee
City council members will also discuss a proposed Library Impact Fee, or LIF, that would affect new developments in the city. LIF would help expand library services to accommodate new development, according to the meeting’s agenda. The proposed fee does not impact future tenants, only the developers constructing the projects.

A study conducted by Willdan Financial Services settled on a $544 fee for single-family residential units and $495 for multi-family residential units.
