A structure fire Sunday morning has sent seven Hollister residents looking for a home.
The fire erupted around 5:45 a.m. Sunday in the 100 block of Gonzalez Drive, as the flames spewed from the garage and into the home’s living area, Fire Chief Fred Cheshire said. Firefighters worked for 40 minutes trying to extinguish the fire and were on scene to nearly 11 a.m.
Five adults, a child and an infant lived inside the building.
The home received extensive fire and smoke damage, but most of the fire damage was quarantined to just the garage, Cheshire said. No residents received any injuries, but one firefighter complained of straining his back.
The fire started because of excessive lint in the clothes dryer, Cheshire said. The dryer was in the garage.
“It looks like it was a cleaning issue with the dryer’s vents,” Cheshire said.
