Nicolas, both of Hollister, are halfway through a 6-month
deployment to the Western Pacific and Arabian Gulf while assigned
to the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, based at Camp Pendleton.
Marine Corps Sgt. Jose M. Bernal and Lance Cpl. Justin Ray San Nicolas, both of Hollister, are halfway through a 6-month deployment to the Western Pacific and Arabian Gulf while assigned to the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, based at Camp Pendleton.

Bernal, a 1996 graduate of San Benito High School, is the son of Isabel and Manuel Bernal of Hollister. San Nicolas is a 2000 graduate of San Andreas High School.

Both Marines are part of a unit of more than 10,000 Pacific Fleet Sailors and Marines aboard the ships of the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Battle Group and USS Belleau Wood Amphibious Ready Group.

The unit is an expeditionary intervention force with the ability to rapidly organize for combat operations in virtually any environment.
