Hollister – Saturday and Sunday morning were the coldest nights of the winter, according to unofficial data from the National Weather Service.

Temperatures began to drop on Thursday, when the region was hit with the one-two punch of a cold front and clearing cloud cover, leaving nothing to hold the day’s heat. Early-morning temperatures that had previously stayed in the low 30s kept falling; the weather got as cold as 26 degrees on Friday morning, 22 degrees on Saturday and 23 degrees on Sunday.

NWS forecaster Steve Anderson said the winter’s previous low came on Dec. 19, when temperatures fell to 27 degrees. He told the Free Lance that if the unofficial numbers are accurate, Saturday was the coldest Jan. 13 in Hollister history, and Sunday the coldest Jan. 14.

Hollister is expected to warm up for the rest of the week, with highs of 57 and 58 degrees and lows of 32 degrees forecast until Friday.
