Hollister’s Julia Herrera Reynoso will pass the century mark on Sunday, Jan. 9.

Settling in Hollister in 1950, she has seen the growth of the rural agricultural town flourish over the years since the early beginning of the cannery to the explosion of commerce, residential development and technology of modern day life.

Born in Mexico, Reynoso married Francisco Reynoso and migrated to the United States in 1921 seeking opportunity for their future family. After she and her husband settled in Hollister, they later moved to a small ranch-style home on Locust Ave. in 1959 to raise their 12 children. Now her extended family consists of 38 grandchildren, 72 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great grandchildren.

She attributes her longevity to her family and her simple lifestyle.
