to celebrate Memorial Day.

Hollister veterans joined together as the county’s three military posts, 6359, 9242 and American Legion post 69, put on a memorial in which elected officials such as Supervisors Pat Loe and Reb Monaco, and Mayor Victor Gomez spoke to a small but attentive crowd.
The 30 minute ceremony allowed each public official to give their thanks to those who served in wars.
“Today, we take time to reflect on our brave military personnel,” Loe said.
All the speeches had similar messages of remembering those who sacrificed for the United States.
“It reminds us of what they sacrificed to serve this country,” Gomez said.
He added that he shouldn’t be speaking but those who served “are the ones that need to be up here” on stage.
Councilman Doug Emerson gave his thanks to the veterans as well.
“Memorial Day is a day where we give thanks to all who gave us what we have,” he said.
Post 9242 Senior Vice Commander Jesse Garza, who opened the service by thanking everyone in the crowd, mediated the ceremony.
“Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for showing up,” he said.
Garza closed the ceremony with a presentation of red, white and blue wreaths, and five rifles fired into the air.
