Tyler Rickard had 13 points, Kyle Vallejo added 12 points and eight rebounds, and the San Benito Haybalers cruised past visiting Everett Alvarez 59-41 Friday night at Hollister’s Mattson Gym.

The win improves the Balers to 4-3 in the Tri-County Athletic League and 12-7 overall.

“It was a good bounce-back game, and good because everyone played,” said San Benito head coach Tracy Carpenter, whose Balers previously lost to Salinas by a 62-47 margin last Wednesday. “We had a lot of contributors, a lot of playing time, and it was a good defensive effort.”

Alvarez’s 41-point output on Friday night was the lowest of the season for the Eagles in TCAL play. The team’s second lowest output in league also came against the Balers on Jan. 7, when Alvarez compiled just 42 points at home.

“We defended them well,” Carpenter said.

Meanwhile, Vallejo’s 12-point effort coincided with his status as Homecoming king. Teammate Eric Elayda chimed in with nine points, including a pair of 3-pointers, while Evan Olbring had eight points.

San Benito will be back in action on Friday when it will visit North Salinas at 7 p.m.
