Our first Red Phone caller of the week, a local woman, asked the Crimson Crusader where she could go to gain access to the Internet. Good question, dearest reader. Our hero is here to help.
The Crimson Crusader called the San Benito County Free Library at 636-4107 to find out details on its computer and Internet use policy. Library Assistant Sandy Eklund said a library card is required to use the computer and Internet. Patrons must also read the library’s usage policy before logging on. Eklund said the computers are available for use during normal library hours, but are shut down 30 minutes before closing time.
Don’t Fade on Me
Our next caller, a thoughtful local woman, asked the Crimson Crusader to see if something could be done about a faded stop sign on Karen Court in Hollister.
The Crimson Crusader called Street Supervisor Ray Rojas to get some answers. Rojas said the city’s sign-replacement program had been eliminated due to budget cuts and staff reductions. He said there are many faded signs throughout the city, but his office is focusing on replacing signs that have been knocked down, are not visible or have been stolen. However, Rojas said he would add the stop sign in question to his list of faded signs ready for replacement.
Road Repair Woes
Our next Red Phone caller, a local gentleman, asked the Crimson Crusader when Southside Road would be repaved.
The Crimson Crusader called Hollister Associate Civil Engineer David Rubcic to get the answer. Rubcic said there were no plans to improve the portions of Southside Road in the city.
The Crimson Crusader also called county Assistant Public Works Director Pete Corn to see if the county had any plans to improve the road. Corn said it was “in the mix” but noted how money problems have delayed work on the road. Improvements to Southside Road aren’t expected now until 2008 or later, he said.
