9U baseball team goes 4-0 at St. Patrick’s Day Tournament

The Hollister Hurricanes 9U baseball team took first place after going 4-0 at the BTT St. Patrick’s Day Tournament at the Twin Creeks Sports Complex in Sunnyvale recently.

Hollister defeated Monterey Bay Castroville 9-1 in their opening game, and then followed that with an 8-3 victory over the Patterson Amigos.

“They looked really good, really sharp,” coach Frank Soto said. “They were clicking on all cylinders. It was a team effort.”

The Hurricanes advanced to the semifinals as a result, and downed Watsonville Travel Ball 15-9. In the championship final, Hollister faced Watsonville again, but this time cruised to an 11-3 win to seal the first-place finish.

“They ran the bases well. They played great defense,” Soto added. “They were happy to be out there.”

Included on the squad are Davonte Butler, Nate Fhurong, Zach Mata, Alex Soto, AJ Borgess, Brad Sparrer, Tyler Grimes, Sammy Vencencio, Derek Moeller, Jake Ito, Marcos Flores and Tony Corral.

The team is managed by Ron Fhurong, and coached by Scott Ito, Alex Flores and Bob Borgess.
