Authorities released the identities of two big-rig truck drivers involved in Friday morning’s crash on Highway 152 that spilled fuel onto the road and snagged traffic.
Robert Bullington, 57, of Red Bluff, had been driving a 2000 Freightliner carrying a load of plywood. Fernando Chan, 47, of San Jose, had been driving a 2007 International carrying home-improvement supplies.
The two diesel trucks slammed into each other on Highway 152 about seven miles northeast of Hollister. The accident left Chan with a broken shoulder – he was transported to Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital – and spilled highly flammable diesel fuel onto the roadway.
Firefighters and California Highway Patrol officers closed the road until the mess could be cleaned up, which happened by about noon, said Chris Armstrong, spokesman for the CHP’s Gilroy-Hollister office.
“The truck carrying the lumber was in the slow lane and attempted to make a U-turn when the driver of the box truck collided with the back of the lumber truck,” Armstrong said.
