Palmas Restaurant, 449 San Benito St., Friday, April 18 at 6 p.m.
Tickets are $25 each and proceeds will fund training, conferences
and grant proposals for teachers and parents.

HOLLISTER – The San Benito County Autism Parents Club members are accepting nominations for the 2008 Autism Awards Banquet at Las Palmas Restaurant, 449 San Benito St., Friday, April 18 at 6 p.m. Tickets are $25 each and proceeds will fund training, conferences and grant proposals for teachers and parents.
There are more than a dozen categories for nominees including special education teacher; certificate of merit; distinguished service award; exemplary service award; excellence in special education; team of the year; innovation in an Autism program; dedication award; parent helper award; recognition; helping hands; grandparents and volunteer appreciation.
Nominations are due April 11 and can be submitted online at www.autismparentsclub.com or sent to 605 Calais Court, Hollister, CA 95023. Award winners will be notified April 14.
Other events include a screening of the film “Autism: The Musical” Friday, April 11 at 5:30 p.m. at the Scatina residence, 256 Lesley Lane. Refreshments will be served. For more information, please RSVP to Vicky at 801-4996.
Legislators visit LULAC
HOLLISTER – State Sen. Gil Cedillo and Assemblymember Anna Caballero will deliver keynote addresses at San Benito County LULAC’s Special Legislative Session this Saturday.
The meeting begins at 10:30 a.m. at the YMCA center on Fifth Street in Hollister.
LULAC (League of United Latin American Citizens) convenes the session each year to discuss issues of importance to the Latino community. The public is invited to attend.
The local organization is working to achieve greater voter turnout by informing the Latino community of the importance of pending legislation and the impact it has on the state and local communities. The local LULAC chapter also is conducting a voter registration drive.

HeArt of CASA fundraiser tickets on sale
HOLLISTER – The inaugural HeArt of CASA, a benefit silent auction and open house for CASA San Benito (Court Appointed Special Advocates) will be held Saturday, May 10 at San Juan Oaks Golf Club from 2-6 p.m. Locals are invited to the event or to sponsor the program. Tickets are $50 per person and admission includes a light dinner. Tickets are available at Drapoel/Teezers, Fortino’s Total Home Furnishings and Serene Home.
CASA is a nonprofit organization working with children in the juvenile dependency system. These children have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect and are placed in foster homes, group homes or with relatives and friends. CASA recruits and trains volunteers to work with these children during what is often a difficult time in their lives. Winemaker’s dinner to raise money for Pantry
HOLLISTER – Community Pantry will host a Winemaker’s dinner at San Juan Oaks Saturday, April 26, from 6-10 p.m. A wine pairing is planned with a variety appetizers, meat, chicken, and fish entrees along with dessert. Each station will feature local winemakers pouring their favorite wines. Both silent and live auctions will be held, with some very impressive items available. For those who like to dance, a DJ will play after the auctions. Tickets are $100.
