Blood drive
HOLLISTER – The American Red Cross will hold its monthly blood drive on Thursday, Aug. 2 from 1:30-6:30 p.m. at the church hall of The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints, 1670 Cienega Road. SVCT auditions
GILROY – South Valley Civic Theatre will hold auditions for its upcoming production of “Arsenic and Old Lace” Thursday and Friday, Aug. 2-3 at its warehouse, 8565 Monterey Road in Gilroy. Check-in time is 6:30 p.m. and auditions begin at 7 p.m. Auditions will also be held on Sunday, Aug. 5; check-in time is 1:30 p.m. and auditions begin at 2 p.m. Call backs (if necessary) will be held on Monday, Aug. 6; time to be announced.

Photo calendar contest
HOLLISTER – Pet Friends is holding a photo contest for an upcoming 2008 calendar fund-raiser. There is a $15 donation per photo. Participants can enter as many photos as they wish, but an entry form and donation is required for each photo. Entry forms, donations and photos must be sent in by Tuesday, July 31. Winners will be notified by Sept. 1, and calendars will be available for purchase by mid-September. For contest rules and entry forms, go to www.petfriends.org.
Hole-in-One, times two
On July 14, two Hollister residents made hole-in-ones at the San Juan Oaks Golf Club in San Juan Bautista. Ten-year-old Ryan Han aced the 130-yard 8th hole with a 5-iron and Bill Gonzales carded a “1” on the 108-yard 16th with a gap wedge.
