Residents have asked the Crimson Crusader what to do about the trash piled up in front of this Airline Highway home.

Our first Red Phone caller, a Hollister woman, asked the Crimson
Crusader to see what could be done about a home on Airline Highway
in San Benito County that had piles of trash and other junk in its
front yard.
Our first Red Phone caller, a Hollister woman, asked the Crimson Crusader to see what could be done about a home on Airline Highway in San Benito County that had piles of trash and other junk in its front yard.

The Crimson Crusader went over to the home to see the problem and then called up San Benito County Code Enforcement Officer Stacey Watson to see what the county could do about the eyesore. Watson said the county has received several complaints about the home in question. She said the county is looking into the matter, but could not comment further because authorities have been unable to reach the property owner. In the meantime, dearest caller, take heart in the fact that both Watson and the Crimson Crusader are on the case.

Road woes continue

Our next Red Phone caller, a Hollister man, asked the Crimson Crusader to find out when Richardson Street in Hollister will be repaved. Our caller said the street is in bad shape and should be redone before work proceeds on other streets in the city.

The Crimson Crusader called David Rubcic, associate civil engineer for the city, to get the answer. Rubcic said re-paving projects for Richardson Street and nearby Palmtag Avenue are in the pipeline for either late this summer or early fall. Rubcic didn’t have an exact start date, but said work on both streets was part of a larger $3 million project. So there you have it, friendly caller. Rest assured that your street will soon be repaved.

Crusader no matchmaker

Our final caller of the week, a Hollister man, asked the Crimson Crusader if our hero would help him propose to his girlfriend in this week’s Red Phone column. Our caller said his girlfriend is an avid fan of the Crimson Crusader and reads the Red Phone column faithfully.

Well, dearest caller, this is the strangest request our hero has received all week. Although the Crimson Crusader can’t think of a more romantic place to see a marriage proposal offered, our hero must politely decline.

Red Phone on Hold

Check back next week for updates on the Crusader’s growing list of “Red Phone On Hold” items.
