The longtime superintendent passed away at age 81.

I just wanted to add a little to your story about the passing of Mr. Greg Hearn. I came to San Benito High School in 1986, at 22 years old with very little experience and he took a chance on me, like he did with many other teachers over the years. But what separated him was the fact that he also provided the support for all of us to grow as teachers, and more importantly as people.
In my opinion, he brought the educational process in Hollister into the modern world, and we were able to provide a quality educational process for the children of all the parents who moved their families to Hollister during the exponential growth of the 80s and 90s. He oversaw the expansion of the school to nearly 3,000 kids. He oversaw the move of the sports programs from the Mission Trail League to the Monterey Bay League, and beyond. As the article mentioned, he was able to direct the growth of the school, the staff, and in as a result the community in general. During his tenure, San Benito High School was a multi California Distinguished School award winner, and he established the still-relevant mission of San Benito High School, which is to educate students to their highest potential so they have the maximum number of personal options upon graduation.
Mr. Hearn had a profound impact on the lives of thousands of students, teachers, administrators, classified staff, and others, and as a result of that the entire community of Hollister.  His passing is a greater loss than many people may know.
Randy Logue, Hollister
