Well-researched piece on Gav
Thank you, Marty Richman, for the well-researched and revealing article on the Gavilan College debacle. Your written expose is an eye- opener, exposing the college’s lack of representation for the people of San Benito County. Public officials of San Benito County, you have been asked by a number of concerned community members to find a solution to the problem of establishing a larger community college presence in Hollister. With the passage of Measure E by the voters of our county in 2004, we have paid millions of our hard- earned dollars for the development of an Educational Center. This has not happened. I call upon our county and city officials to confer with Chancellor Dr. Brice Harris of the California Community College System and his Board of Governors to investigate the actions of the Gavilan Community College District. Today, as a community, we need to see the fruition of our investment by having a comprehensive community college in downtown Hollister.

Comparing Panetta, Lucius
Casey Lucius and Jimmy Panetta, both Navy veterans and both candidates for the 20th Congressional District seat, recently participated in a candidate forum in Carmel. Both had received six questions on foreign policy before the forum. Each candidate was allowed three-plus minutes to answer each question.
This format was very refreshing compared with the adversarial press conferences or debates of the presidential candidates. Both candidates had time to prepare.
Panetta did OK. However, he was outmatched by Lucius who has an M.A. degree in national Security Affairs and a PhD in Political Science. She also taught National Security Decision Making at the Naval Postgraduate School.
Panetta serves Monterey County as a deputy district attorney. Lucius serves on the Pacific Grove City Council.
It would be interesting to see how they perform on domestic and economic topics.

Marty should kneel to FDR
Good luck recalling FDR dimes. Minted in silver, they are problem worth 10 to 50 times face value or more depending on mint condition.
Mr. Richman should kneel in homage to FDR. Franklin Delano Roosevelt, a member of the wealthy, saved Capitalism in the midst of the worst depression in history. Social Security, unemployment insurance, 40-hour week, infrastructure jobs for millions of Americans all were financed by taxing income at the top.
