Reader sees plate reader as waste
Dear Editor,
Why waste money and training on something they won’t use? What happened to the overdue parking time ticket-writing officer’s special Jeep vehicle, or the motorcycle that Hollister spent a lot of money on to have it modified for the short office? The best dedicated traffic officer Hollister PD ever had was the retired CHP officer and I told him so. He was someone who knew his job and wasn’t too lazy to do it. Hollister PD has officers that don’t write citations for loud music from vehicles or people running lights/stop signs. What are they going to do with a license plate reader?
I know times are financially tight, but we have applied for grants and received money that in some cases in the past received money without asking and it was just wasted through mis-management. No name calling or finger pointing because it’s just impossible to tell the future with what seems like a good idea at the time. I sure would like to see Hollister put that Jeep to work with a volunteer. Can’t they put a volunteer behind the wheel with waivers signed saying the volunteer is disabled, has his own insurance and just wants to help the community? No badge, no wages, no obligations, I would even take my own photos and print them if necessary if it went to court.

Questioning COG’s finances
Dear Editor,
The San Benito Council of Governments received its annual audit report at the Dec. 15 meeting. It was noted the Local Transportation Authority had “Expenses” of $1,929,785 and “Charges for Services” of $178,639.  That is, all our county transit systems earned less that 10% of expenses. The balance was made up with grants, better known as taxes.
