Community support makes Gifted Games a success
Thank you for the wonderful article in both the Dispatch and the
Free Lance regarding the 6th annual Baler Gifted Games. I cannot
express enough how grateful I am to the Community of Hollister and
to San Benito High School for making this dream come true. I want
to thank God for giving us all the gift of working with his most
precious kids.
I would very much like to acknowledge Tania DeLeon for her hard
work and dedication on keeping the annual event on going. It is not
an easy task to plan such an event, having worked with Tania over
the past few years I already knew how much passion and dedication
she has for her students. This is why it was such a success. I sure
do miss working with her! But working in Gilroy has been such a
positive experience, the staff is amazing, and they embrace my
ideas and dedication to our students. There are many key players to
planning this event and I would like to mention a few, one is Susan
Hilden, her long nights of inputting all the schools names and
sorting numbers for the student’s Thank you so much!! The other
staff members that play an important part with the planning team
are, Cecilia Andrade (my dear sister) and her husband Mark, Thank
you! Annie Goularte for the planning of the opening ceremonies, I
know Gary is smiling every year with all the wonderful work you are
doing at SBHS! Thank you Sam Sauer for helping Tania with the
grant, and helping us with the heats. Thank you each and every
volunteer and SBHS/GUSD teachers for bringing the students out and
supporting the event. Thank you to all the donors, there are so
many people that help. Thank you to each and every one of you.
Please if I forgot to say thank you in person, remember Tania and I
are ever so grateful..
Next year having the event in Gilroy will be exciting for us, we
are honored to be able to host the event.
If you or your company would like to donate or volunteer to the
Gilroy Gifted Games next year please call me at 408- 847- 2424 ext

Again thank you to each and every person involved with this
wonderful event.

Conserving energy in honor of friends

Suzuyo and Hisashi Sekiguchi send greetings to all their Hollister friends (golf, tennis, and neighbors). Fondly they recall living in Hollister breathing unpolluted air and drinking safe water. Actually we, here in Hollister, are 150 miles from the Diablo nuclear facility in San Luis Obispo, which is about the same distance they now live from the Fukushima Dai Ichi destroyed nuclear plant.

Because the international company for whom Hisashi managed the plant here in the Airport Park closed due to the economy, they returned to their homeland. His plant “Life Spark” manufactured the highly technical device that set off airbags in all cars and trucks.

In her letters, Suzuyo confided the difficulty of living with constant stress and anxiety. Hisashi creates ways to divert her by taking trips to the west coast of Japan near the beautiful sea of Japan, and to the south near Kobe and Osaka where the water is and air are less radiated.

Even though I have solar voltaic cells on my roof I still try to turn off lights and hang clothes in the sun instead of using the drier especially in honor of them. I’ll do all I can to provide energy for the grid and look to the future where we all will accomplish the task.

Vote no on Measure A

Local schools are painting a grim picture of educational financial crisis.

Upwards of 60% of the entire budget of the state is poured into the schools.

As a retired government employee with years spent in the school finance department I can assure you schools don’t have a money problem, they have a management problem,

Schools, like all governmental agencies need to learn money management and how to properly allocate their funds to necessary programs.

Measure A is not necessary. The common sense and logical vote would be No!
