Mother and Daughter Grateful for Timely, Thoughtful Help
Mother and Daughter Grateful for Timely, Thoughtful Help

Editor,

On Sept. 20 my 94-year-old mother pressed her Lifeline signal and the Hollister paramedics were called at 1am to assist her. The paramedics arrived and helped her through her difficult time. The team was caring and supportive. Later that day on their own reconnaissance they revisited my mother’s home to be sure she was doing well and to check if she needed any support. We were very grateful and deeply touched by this thoughtful act.

My mother, Laura, and I would like to thank the paramedic team for a job well done and acting beyond the call of duty. We are fortunate to have such an outstanding team in our town.

‘Game of Sewage’ Will Ruin Hollister’s Small-Town Flavor

Editor,

Small-town politics are at their very best here in Hollister. I’m disgusted with the sewer issues. To me it is as simple as ABC. Yet we are about to foot the largest sewer bill ever imagined.

The people of this town voted (and I’m a voter) to keep a growth cap of one percent per year. Yet your politicians cannot wait for the sewage moratorium to be lifted. If the people voted one percent growth per year, we do not need a mega sewer plant. That’s simple enough for me. I don’t want to see Hollister with 50,000 to 70,000 people. I like small community.

The politicians are using us (the citizens of this city) in this “Game of Sewage.” This is how it works. If you, Mr. and Mrs. Citizen do not want to grow in population, you will pay in full for the sewer plan. If you’ll just pass Measure S and all the other large proposed developments, these developers will pay in full for the sewer plant. But, your politicians will be wined and dined by these developers and guess what? These politicians will waive most of the impact fees. Oh yes they will, because they have been doing this as a general practice in the past. So Mr. and Mrs. Citizen, you will pay for the sewer plant in full anyway.

If measure S passes, I will vow to vote “yes” on any other Tom, Dick, and Harry developer that wants to build and, I don’t care how crappy their plans are! There will be so many developers that your politicians are going to get very rich. They may also put Mr. and Mrs. “Senior” Citizen of Hollister in the poor house or, they will just have to move to Panoche or New Idria. Your politicians never meant for anyone to move but then again, it’s the “Game of Sewage” they’re playing, which is really a cover game for “Big Growth.” Mr. and Mrs. Citizen, you’re going to lose this game! I didn’t say that did I?
