Richard Martinez, a junior at San Benito High School, is being
awarded the Boy Scouts of America’s highest award for achievement,
the Eagle Scout.
Richard Martinez, a junior at San Benito High School, is being awarded the Boy Scouts of America’s highest award for achievement, the Eagle Scout. He is the first Scout in Troop 444 to receive this honor.

Martinez, 16, has been active in Scouts since 1997. He joined Troop 444 in 2000 and has held the positions of Senior Patrol Leader, Historian, Chaplain Aide and Den Chief. He is also a member of the Order of the Arrow Esselen Lodge No. 531 where he is Vice Chief of Communications and holds the rank of Brotherhood.

Martinez, the son of Lidia Collins and Joe Martinez of Hollister, has earned 32 merit badges and completed the Eagle Service Project by landscaping and installing an irrigation system for the new sign at Tres Pinos School.

Martinez has achieved several Scouting awards including World Conservation, Den Chief Service Award and the Ad Altare Dei Religious Emblem. He has also received certification and special training for CPR, First Aid and Junior Leader.

His National Eagle Court of Honor will be held Saturday, Feb. 22 at 3:30 p.m. at St. Benedict Church Hall on Fairview Road in Hollister.
