Hollister – A gang-prevention video produced locally by the Leadership San Benito Class last year won a nationwide award for community media.

The leadership class in fall 2006 produced the video “You Can’t Get There … From Here” as its project. The film’s goal was showing elementary school children in Hollister the importance of making good life decisions, and to deter gang affiliation.

The video won the 2007 Hometown Video Award for Making a Difference.

Jack Bachofer, who works for the Hollister School District and was in the leadership class, said he was excited to hear that they received the honor.

Project co-chair Jeana Arnold said she was proud the award showcased Leadership San Benito.

“I was really proud to be a part of it,” Arnold said. “That was the point of the video – we were trying to make a difference, if only for that one person, so to win an award for that is great.”

The film was co-produced by the Community Media Access Partnership at Gavilan College.
