Residents interested in running for office on the June primary ballot had until a week ago to declare candidacy.

San Benito County voters will decide on the newly formed 30th Assembly District and will choose between incumbent Democrat Luis Alejo, of Watsonville, and county resident Robert Bernosky, who ran against Alejo in 2010 as well.

For the three open seats on the county board of education, there is just one candidate in each district – Mary Anne Filice in 1, Guadalupe Candelaria in 2 and Patricia Jean Ward in 5.

Three county supervisors are running for reelection in 2012, and all three will face opponents on the June primary ballot.

In District 1, Supervisor Margie Barrios will face challenger Mark Starritt. Barrios, seeking a second four-year term, lists her occupation as a self-employed accountant. Starritt lists himself as a general building contractor.

In District 2, Supervisor Anthony Botelho will face challenger Arturo Medina. Botelho is seeking a third term and lists himself as a farmer. Medina is a former San Juan Bautista city councilman and lists himself as a small business owner.

In District 5, Supervisor Jaime De La Cruz is seeking a third term, listing himself as an accountant and county supervisor. He is facing Sonny Flores, who lists his occupation as property management.
