Hollister – Five Hollister residents came home with honors at the California State Horsemen’s Association State Show of Champions over the weekend.

Amateur adults and kids competed at the state finals, held at the Sonoma County Fair Grounds.

Ellen El-Bisi, president of the region’s California State Horsemen’s Association, said she was really proud of the students’ performances.

“I’m just tickled. To come home as successful as we were, that’s just great,” El-Bisi said.

Children competed in both English and Western riding disciplines.

“They just came home so excited,” she said. “It’s better for them to do that than get in trouble on the streets.”
