Lois M. Castro died of cancer Monday, Dec. 8 at Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare Systems. She was 69.

Mrs. Castro was born in Watsonville on March 23, 1934. She moved to Salinas in 1966, Hollister in 1971, moving back to Salinas in 1974, returned to Hollister then moved permanently to Salinas in 1995.

She was a welder for a manufacturing plant in Hollister for 39 years.

She loved to play Bingo and cards, enjoyed cooking, traveling, fishing and in her earlier years outing with the family water skiing.

Mrs. Castro was a member of YLI of Hollister, St. Joseph Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Church.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years Eugene Castro of Salinas; sons Andrew Hernandez of Perryville, Ark., Eugene Castro Jr. of Hollister, and Robert James Castro of Colorado; sisters Shirley Joan Florence of Salinas and Marjorie Waters of Salinas. She is also survived by eight grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother Doyle Huckaby.

A celebration of her life will be Saturday, Dec. 13 at 2 p.m. at Whitehurst Muller Chapel in Salinas.
