On April 23 Geri Johnson received the Presidential Award of Distinction for Humanitarianism April 23 from from the City Clerk’s Association of California.

“It was a little overwhelming,” Johnson said. “I was shocked.”

Johnson has been giving back to the community for more than 30 years now. She has worked with the American Cancer Society, Hollister’s Sister City Project, the Hollister Downtown Association and many other organizations both locally and outside the city limits.

To celebrate Johnson’s achievements a buffet luncheon will be held at Paine’s Restaurant, located at 421 East St. The luncheon will be held July 10, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The price is $20 per person with the proceeds going to the Hollister City Employee Relay For Life Team.

According to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life is their signature activity, and is a specific organization Johnson about which is particularly passionate.

It allows the people in the community to participate in the fight against cancer. They are asked to walk in the name of life and raise much-needed funds to fight cancer and raise awareness of cancer prevention and treatment.

The Relay For Life of Hollister will be July 31, at San Benito High School. Those interested in participating can still form a team, or join an existing team. For more information, visit http://relay.acsevents.org.
