Luz C. Martinez died Jan. 31 at Hazel Hawkins Hospital. She was
born in Ajuntas, Zacatecas, Mexico and was 67 years old.
Luz C. Martinez died Jan. 31 at Hazel Hawkins Hospital. She was born in Ajuntas, Zacatecas, Mexico and was 67 years old.
She and her husband, Joe, were married 40 years ago at Immaculate Conception Church in Tres Pinos. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and sang in the choir, San Pablo De Colores in Watsonville, United Farm Workers, was involved with the local artists and painted. Her works were on display at Tonantzin Gallery in San Juan Bautista. She was also involved in Comunidad Eclesial De Base, Cursillo San Pablo, The Migrant Education Program and went on the Familias De Esperanza mission to Nicaragua and Guatamala in 1994. She also worked with the poor through Sacred Heart Church.
She is survived by her husband, Joe Martinez of Hollister; her children and their spouses, Elizabeth Martinez of Hollister, James and Cristina Martinez of Hollister, Marisela and Moises Martinez-Chavez of Oakland, Rene Martinez of Hollister and Christopher Martinez and his girlfriend, Elisa Gonzalez of Hollister; her brothers and sisters, Antonio Cabral of Ariz., Cruz Cabral of Los Angeles, Candelario Cabral of Los Angeles, Oliva Cabral of Hollister and Cristina Cabral of San Francisco. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren
The Rosary and vigil service will be on Friday, Feb. 4 at 7pm at St. Benedict’s Church in Hollister.
The Mass will be on Saturday at noon in St. Benedict’s Church. Friends can gather at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home at 11:15am for a procession to the church. Cremation will follow the Mass with interment on Monday at Calvary Cemetery at 11am. Friends can pay their respects on Friday at the funeral home from 3 until 5:30pm and then at St. Benedict’s Church after 6pm. Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
