Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004. She was 94.

San Juan Bautista resident Marjorie E. Frey died in Gilroy on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004. She was 94.
She was born in April 10, 1909 and lived in San Benito her entire life.
She was educated at San Juan Canyon Grammar School.
Mrs. Frey was a third generation of her family to live on the same property her grandparents purchased in San Juan Canyon in 1870.
A life long rancher and orchardist, she also was a cook at the old River Inn.
In her younger years, she enjoyed deer and quail hunting with her late husband.
Mrs. Frey was known as an artsy/craftsy person, carving appleheads and being able to create something from nothing.
An out of doors person, she loved to work in her garden.
Her late husband, Leo Frey, died in 1941. He was the first park ranger in 1935 at Fremont Peak. Both he and she pitched a tent over a raised wooden floor that they built at the Peak office, eventually building a cabin, which is still there today. It was after he died that she became a cook and worked at the River Inn to help raise her family.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Gaye Dianne and Sheldon Carman of San Juan Bautista; and grandchildren Renee Carmen and Brent Carmen, both of San Juan Bautista. She is also survived by a nephew and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents William and Magdalena Bingham; husband Leo Frey; brothers Phillion, William and Ben Bingham; and grandson Gregg Day.
As per her wishes, arrangements have been made for private cremation at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home and Crematory to be followed by private interment.
Memorials may be madee to Community Pantry of San Benito County or CHOMP in care of Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home.
