San Jose Valley Medical Center Wednesday night, after a semi-truck
ran a red light and crashed into her car at the Highway 25 and 156
intersection, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Hollister – A Hollister woman was transported by a life-flight helicopter to San Jose Valley Medical Center Wednesday night, after a semi-truck ran a red light and crashed into her car at the Highway 25 and 156 intersection, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred around 9:30pm. M. Louise Callanta, 34, was stopped at a red light on Highway 25 facing southbound in a 1995 Mazda. When the light turned green, she entered the intersection and was struck by an oncoming semi-truck that attempted to run the red light heading westbound on Highway 156.
“Anytime there’s a broadside hit like that, the passengers are usually always life-flighted,” CHP Public Information Officer Terry Mayes said.
Callanta complained of neck and collar bone pain, and suffered several lacerations on her face, and was taken to San Jose Valley Medical Center and later released. David A. Lopez Cruz, 22, the driver of the semi-truck, wasn’t injured.
Mayes said this intersection can be dangerous, but usually it’s not people running lights that causes the accidents.
“Usually we have problems with people trying to pass and merge there, not from running lights,” she said.
