Special to the Pinnacle

Vallie Bishop, fundraising chair of the Friends of the San Benito County Free Library, recently delivered a check for $2,000 to Mary Schneider, president of the Friends, as their share of the proceeds from the Mystery Party event held Saturday evening, Oct. 25, 2008 at the Pietra Santa Winery.

The event was a joint venture with the San Benito County Historical Society with the mystery play production a donated effort by the San Benito Stage Company.

Schneider said the funds complete the Friends’ successful “Stock the Bookmobile” campaign.

“This check means we have gone over the top of the amount we had hoped to raise in the drive. It means a lot to know that we can help with more books for the bookmobile in this era of budget cuts,” Schneider said.

“I couldn’t have done it without our sponsors: Pietra Santa Winery, Java Express, Damn Water Company, Postnet, Hollister Honda, San Benito Stage Company, Community Foundation for San Benito County, The Inn at Tres Pinos, Running Rooster and Vallie Bishop,” Bishop said. “A large part of our success goes to the Silent Auction and Prize donors,” she added.

Those were Drapoel, She’s, Nob Hill Foods Hollister, Starbucks Airline Highway, Briganti’s Automotive, San Juan Oaks Club, Trader Joe’s Morgan Hill, Pam Rocco, Paicines Ranch, Flapjack’s Tres Pinos, Central Coast Dove Release, DMB El Rancho San Benito, Casa de Fruta, Irene Sanchez, Apricot King Orchards, Visions of Christmas San Juan Bautista, Frank and Sharlene Van Rooy, Upton and Associates Real Estate Gilroy, Calera Wine Company, DeRose Vineyards, Leal Winery, Mercey Hot Springs, Hollister Honda, Java Express, The Apricot Farm, Vallie Bishop, Saint Francis Statuette, Interior Design Consultation, and Ed Hardy Sunglasses.

“And no event can be done without the help of eager volunteers like Gayle Jackson, Jamie Frusetta, Susan Botelho, Holly Greenwood, Michael Mann, Edwina Worden, Rich Devlin, Jeanette Velasquez and Vallie Bishop. Just wait until next year!”

“Thanks to all our supporters,” added Betty Mason, adult reference librarian.
