Hollister – The Nan Pipestem Wildlife Rehabilitation Center is hoping for a good turnout at its 11th annual barbecue dinner at 6pm today at the Bolado Park Fairgrounds.

The center cares for the injured and orphaned wildlife of San Benito County, said Kate Woods, the center’s president.

“We don’t get any money for the county or city,” Woods said. “We rely on the generosity of the public.”

The annual barbecue dinner is the nonprofit’s largest fundraiser of the year. Woods said the money will be used to keep the wildlife rehabilitation center open.

“Every bit of what we raise goes to the caring and saving of animals,” she said.

The shelter houses a variety of wild animals, from barn owls to bobcats, and nurses them back to health.

A silent and live auction will be at 6pm, with dinner at 7pm. Woods said the auction will run until 9:30pm. The center is also accepting donated auction items, including gift baskets, certificates and appliances.

Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at Tres Pinos Ranch Supply, Animal Hospital of Hollister, Johnny’s Bar & Grill, Visions of Christmas in San Juan Bautista, Family Pet Care Center and Ausaymas Veterinary Service.
