Morgan Tharp has joined the staff of the Hollister Free Lance as the new city editor.
She will be responsible for editing local news articles, interacting with reporters and the public, updating the newspaper Web site and collaborating with other editors to help put out the daily newspaper and produce special sections.
Tharp, 22, recently graduated from California State University, Northridge with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a bachelor’s degree in political science.
She also worked at the award-winning school newspaper, the Daily Sundial, working her way up from being a reporter in the summer of 2002 to being the editor-in-chief of the campus publication this past summer.
“I love to read and write,” Tharp said. “It will be fun to have a career in journalism.”
“The city editor position at a newspaper of any size is a crucial one,” said Mike Fitzgerald, associate publisher/executive editor of the Free Lance. “We are glad to have Morgan help lead our newsroom with her talent and enthusiasm.”
Tharp said she is really excited about joining the Free Lance staff and moving to Hollister, although it is a big change from the Los Angeles area, where she was born and raised.
“Everything’s different,” she said. “You can’t compare the two.”
Tharp can be contacted with news tips and story ideas at 637-5566 ext. 332 or at mt****@fr***********.com.
