Year in review: Fire and smoke in San Benito County
Fire is one of the most transformative elements in the known universe. Thus, it shouldn’t be a surprise that fire had such a wide-ranging impact on San Benito County—from criminal acts of arson that left family-owned businesses crumbled to the ground, to a late summer smoky haze that drifted over from numerous massive wildfires to the north and south.
Calfire suspends open burning in the county
Citing "the extreme menace of wildfire and its potential to destroy life, property, and natural resources" following continued dry conditions, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection last week suspended open burning in many areas of the state, including San Benito County.
Veterans Corner: Banner presentation, parade ahead
As part of the 14th annual San Benito County Veterans Day ceremony and parade in downtown Hollister on Nov. 11, more banners will be going up with the names of local veterans presently serving on active duty. Their names are: Michael Canning, Marc Martin Del Campo, Miguel Martin Del Campo, Yesenia Robles, and Anthony Perez.
