Toffey and Posey: ‘Doggie Luv’

Toffey and Posey, half brother and sister, are my two very best furry friends! As the owner and mother of two doggie kids, I love both my schnoodles (schnauzer/poodle mix) the same, and that, of course, is a whole, whole lot. I am so lucky to have two waggily tails as my two very best friends. Why are they my best times two buddies?

Police agencies to host another drug take-back event

On Oct. 26, the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office, Hollister Police Department and Drug Enforcement Administration will hold another “National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day”.

Rusty: A part of the family

We would like to tell you about our dog, Rusty. He is an English cocker spaniel and he came to us four years ago in a terribly neglected state. He has become a huge part of our family and we all adore him terribly, he even now goes on vacations with us.

Mack and Shy: Ambassadors for the breed

In March 2010, I adopted a pit bull that we named Mack from the San Martin Humane Society. At the time, I didn’t really notice there was another dog in the kennel with him. I was only interested in adopting one dog. About three weeks later, my husband noticed the Pet of the Week in the Gilroy Dispatch and mentioned how much she looked like Mack. We went to see her and found out that she had been brought in as a stray with another dog, but he’d been adopted and she’d been lonely and depressed. As we got more of the story, we found out the other dog was Mack. So we brought him to see her. When they saw each other, it was an amazing reunion. They ran and jumped on each other, licked each other and finally laid down together to rest. What a love story … we adopted Shy and brought them both home.

Lobito: The great escape artist

Lobito (which means little wolf) is a white male Chihuahua with short legs and really bad breath that smells like a dead rat. He just walks and does not bark too much; also he is blind at night. We celebrated his 15th birthday on Sept. 24.

Niner: Welcoming soldiers home

Niner is a 4-year-old German shepherd mix who was born Sept. 9, 2009. He is a very special dog to me. Niner is my best friend and a great companion. He is very friendly and loves other dogs and people. He is great with children and also a good watch dog. He goes almost everywhere with me and loves to ride in cars, boats, trains, planes and - most of all - his sidecar. He also loves the water and swimming.

Kirby and No-no Lulu: The ‘hounds from hell’

Kirby and No-no Lulu look calm and innocent - but in reality they are just taking a well-deserved break from their full-time job as the neighborhood hounds from hell. This job includes barking at anything that moves (from tree leaves to the tiny white dog down the street whom they both hate for reasons which are not known to me), stealing the left shoe from every pair I own, eating the teenager’s socks, sitting on the living room furniture when nobody is home and attacking the TV when a dog comes on. In their off time they enjoy sitting on that couch, which is fairly new since No-no Lulu ate the last one.
