Pat St. John had a birthday last week and many of the volunteers at Pat's Place, a local thrift shop, gave her a potluck lunch in honor of her special day. St. John said the reason she comes in to the shop to give her time is because of the volunteers that work there.
Battle of the Bands highlights the best of the best at SBHS
San Benito High School's Rock Guitar Club has been hosting the Battle of the Bands competition since 2003, with the latest event held in October. The club started in response to the number of students requesting guitar lessons from SBHS English teacher Thomas Rooth.
Lloyd Lowrey receives Distinction Award
Lloyd W. Lowrey, attorney for Noland, Hamerly, Etienne & Hoss has received the Client Distinction Award 2013 from Martindale-Hubbell. This honor is a recognition of excellence based on quality of service, overall value for the money, responsiveness and communications ability. For nearly 35 years, Lowrey has advised clients in Monterey, San Benito, Santa Clara and Monterey counties in business transactions. He has resolved disputes through negotiation, mediation, arbitration and litigation. He is a member of the Gilroy Rotary Club, and past president and board member of the Salinas Valley Chamber of Commerce, which recognized him as “Member of the Year” in 1991 and “Citizen of the Year” in 1996. His other community service contributions have included Rotary International, American Lung Association Board of Directors, Hartnell Community College Board of Trustees, Salinas Valley Memorial Health Care System Foundation, Salinas Jaycees, Boy Scouts of America and Leadership Gilroy. Lowrey has also served as Chair of the Salinas Valley Water Advisory Commission and is a member of the Monterey County Farm Bureau.
San Benito students are set to tour Italy, Greece
San Benito High School teacher Andrea Walton is again holding informational meetings for a spring break trip that has become a tradition. Last year students toured London and France, visiting sites that played an historical role in World War II. This year students will have a chance to tour seven cities on a trip to Italy and Greece.
