Juvenile work service program to graduate 47 minors

When Jennifer Stiers started working with the 47 minors who are currently enrolled in the juvenile work service program, she had each of them fill out a worksheet about themselves. The students range in age from 11 to 18 and have been convicted of minor misdemeanors up to felonies. They answered questions about what they love, what they fear, what they regret and what they appreciate.

Updated: Man dies on Anza Trail; responders delayed by locked gate

An adult male died Tuesday while walking on the Old Stage Road portion of the Juan Bautista de Anza National Trail system, and responders experienced difficulty gaining access to the emergency due to a locked gate at the entrance.

Rubber-Banded Ruddy Duck Released

This male Ruddy Duck was rescued January 6th with rubber bands cruelly attached between its head and beak, so tight that it wasn't able to open its beak or eat.

Lil Buddy

Lil Buddy is a 9-month-old terrier mix. He is sweet, loving and energetic. He broke his back left leg and will be in a cast for six weeks. He has been at the San Martin Animal Shelter since December. Updated: Man killed from injuries in accident on U.S. 101

Two traffic accidents on U.S. 101 in north Morgan Hill snarled early-morning holiday traffic Monday; killing a San Martin man and sending two others to the hospital.

Pet Friends annual fashion show

At the Diablo Room at Ridgemark, Pet Friends will present the "Raining Cats and Dogs" Fashion Show and Luncheon. We will feature fashions from local stores, along with a luncheon, No Host Bar, and Drawings for prize baskets. Tickets are $25 each, and are available from She's, Postal Graphics, Ridgemark, and Pet Friends. The luncheon begins at 11:00 on March 10th, and all proceeds go to support Pet Friends Rescue and Shelter, and the Hays-Stratton Spay and Neuter Clinic.

Flurry of small earthquakes shake near Hollister

There were two minor earthquakes in the Tres Pinos area Monday as part of a flurry of temblors in the region, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
