Election 2012

There were no dramatic shifts in the latest vote count released by the elections office.

The elections office shortly before 6 p.m. Friday released its latest tabulation, the first since Election Night. There were 15,098 total votes reported out, while the office has said it expects to count 18,000 ballots. Final figures are expected by the middle of next week.

In Hollister’s two most prominent races, businessman Ignacio Velazquez maintained a more than 10-point lead over runner-up Doug Emerson and will be Hollister’s first at-large mayor, while the Measure E sales tax continued to show steady support in the latest count.

Velazquez had 38.9 percent to Emerson’s 28.3 percent. Velazquez had 2,909 votes to Emerson’s 2,119. Martin Richman came in third with 16.5 percent of the vote. Keith Snow had 15.6 percent.

Measure E, a five-year extension to the city’s 1 percent sales tax, showed 57.8 percent “yes” votes to 42.2 percent on the “no” side.
