Raymond L. “Jack” Gray, of Purcellville, VA. died on October 31, 2002.
Mr. Gray was born in Henderson County, Tex., on Feb. 13, 1912. He was a World War II Veteran with the 713th Tank Battalion Flame Thrower Unit in Okinawa.
Mr. Gray lived in Lubbock County for 69 years. He was a water well driller and wind miller. He resided in Hollister and California for 20 years before moving to Virginia a year ago to live with his son. Mr. Gray was active in church work. He was a member of the Apostolic Full Gospel Church of Hollister. He enjoyed gospel singing and playing the piano.
Mr. Gray is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mineola Gray, two sons Gordon Stewart of Purcellville, Va., and James Roy Gray of Hollister, and one foster daughter Elsie Crowder of Lubbock. He is also survived by four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services were conducted by the Military at Quantico National Cemetery, Va., on Nov. 5. Friends may send condolences to Mrs. Gray at 19400 Jodphur Dr., Leesburg, Va., 20175.
David H. Hyman
David H. Hyman, owner of Hollister Western Store, died at the Hazel Hawkins Northside Convalescent Hospital on Friday afternoon. He was 66.
Mr. Hyman was born in Gilroy and has lived in San Benito County all his life. He graduated from San Benito High School and attended Menlo Park College and a college in Southern California. He served in the U.S. Navy in the 50’s. Mr. Hyman was a member of the Hollister Elks Lodge #1436, B.P.O.E., the San Benito Masonic Lodge, SIRS of Hollister, the Hollister Chamber of Commerce, the Hollister Downtown Business Association, Ridgemark Golf and Country Club and he was a former member of the Hollister Rotary Club
Mr. Hyman started out in the clothing business working for his father, Abe Hyman, at The Wardrobe in Hollister. He opened Senior David’s in Watsonville in 1968 and later opened Senior David’s in Gilroy in the early 1970’s. He worked for the Hazel Hawkins Hospital Foundation from 1987-1989 as a fundraiser. In 1989 he purchased the Hollister Western Store.
Mr. Hyman is survived by his wife, Alice Hyman of Hollister, his children Charles Hyman of Hollister, Sheliah Cox of Southern California, Susan Rosenthal of Tucson, Ariz., Renee Kunz of Hollister, Pamela Ahlin of Hollister, and Robert Prater of Salinas. He is also survived by eight grandchildren.
The funeral was Tuesday morning at the chapel of the Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home under the direction of the Hollister Elks Lodge and John Amelio of the Church of Glad Tidings of San Juan Bautista. Burial and graveside services followed at the San Juan District Cemetery. Contributions are preferred to the Parkinson’s Institution in Sunnyvale or Solutions of Hollister in care of the Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home.
