A motorist sustained moderate injuries Thursday when his car ran into the rear of a tractor-trailer rig that was waiting for traffic at the intersection of highways 152 and 156.
The unidentified motorist was taken by ambulance to Hazel Hawkins Hospital where he was treated for injuries to his head, face and neck, the California Highway Patrol said.
The 10:45 a.m. accident happened when the unidentified driver was westbound on Highway 152 in a black Ford Taurus GL sedan, the CHP said. As he approached the intersection of highways 152 and 156, he apparently did not see a white Peterbilt tractor-trailer rig that was stopped in a left turn lane waiting for eastbound traffic to clear, the CHP said.
Crash investigators said the Taurus had slowed to just below highway speeds as it entered the left turn lane and struck the rear of the big rig.
The crash caused a minor disruption in the flow of traffic along Highway 152 as emergency crews and paramedics treated the injured motorist and pushed the damaged sedan off the highway.
The truck driver was not injured in the crash and neither highway was closed.
Investigators said it does not appear that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, the CHP said.
