Letter: Push for train use
Railroads know intermodal, serve business and commerce with it. And what do we have? COG-VTA knows transit, “free” lite rail shuttle, Heavy Socialist Lite Rail, crucifying losses with Caltrain, almost as bad as Amtrak, empty bus-seat transport, gouging motorists and truckers to
Guest View: Voters must take hold of their future
It is time for the community to begin the work to get what it wants. For example, swimming pools at the high school so that our students get what they need and all San Benito residents have a recreational amenity to use.
Letter: Don’t be desensitized by liberal agenda
On Jan. 1, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln signed and issued the Emancipation Proclamation, declaring that slaves in rebel states shall be "forever free." At the time of his death he was enshrined as “The Great Emancipator” and the writing and signing of this document was considered the most hallowed accomplishment of his presidency that led to the 13th Amendment. On this sesquicentennial, our President, the first African American to serve in the same office did not mark the Proclamation’s anniversary in any way nor was their much fanfare given to it by the media. Honestly, for me it was just about not losing any more services; most notably public safety. I wanted to at least ask the residents for another five years of an existing tax because I thought it would be good for us as a community. I wanted to give you the choice to choose our path. I felt like it wouldn't be too much to ask the voters to continue Measure T because there was so much more to be lost than just that one penny spent on the dollar that we have already been paying.
