Letter: Rancher calls fracking a ‘scare tactic’

Election Day is finally upon us. As a longstanding San Benito County resident, landowner, and water district director, I couldn’t be happier. We get to say goodbye to the hype and hysteria that has overtaken our community over the last several months. Now is the time for reason, not emotion. That is why I urge you to vote no on Measure J.

Guest View: Supervisors Botelho, Rivas reaffirm support for Measure J

We are writing to set the record straight. Supervisor Margie Barrios said at the last San Juan Bautista City Council meeting (Oct 21, 2014) when that council endorsed Measure J, that some of her fellow supervisors are "now rethinking their decisions after all the information that has come out" — suggesting that we're distancing themselves from support of Measure J. This could not be further from the truth.

Guest View: Farr says Measure J is just right for San Benito’s future

The small population of San Benito County is at a crossroads of two futures. Measure J gives the people a choice. One future has been offered to you by local citizens who collected thousands of signatures to put Measure J on the ballot. I know the supporters of Measure J and have discussed with them their vision for a brighter future for their county which builds on their rich agricultural heritage, natural beauty and cultural history. In contrast, the oil industry is spending millions to persuade residents to embrace another, darker future.

Letter: SBHSTA endorses board candidates

Dear San Benito County Voters,

Column: Don’t frack with our logo

Last week we published a piece distancing this newspaper from the political campaign to oppose Measure J, which has prominently featured our logo. The campaign is centered around some quotes picked from a May piece that represents the opinions of community members who served on a volunteer editorial board.

Guest View: Supervisor contends Measure J goes too far

I think most San Benito County residents believe that energy companies should be able to continue to operate here—and perhaps even expand—provided they are held to stringent environmental regulations. I fall into this camp, too. It is why I am voting no on Measure J.

Letter: Snow is a great candidate for mayor

My name is Jose Palacios. I have known Keith Snow for about 10 years. He is a caring, honest, and a hard-working man. Now that Keith is running for mayor I believe he will make a great candidate. I endorse Keith Snow for Hollister city mayor.

Letter: Snow is a great person, caring

This is a letter of recommendation for a close friend of our family, Keith Snow. We have known Keith for six years. He is a great person. He is a very caring and thoughtful man. Now that Keith is running for mayor he has shown great concern for the community and all of San Benito County. Keith is the perfect person for mayor. I endorse Keith Snow for mayor.

Letter: Farm Fresh owner supports Snow

I Nader Javid, owner of Farm Fresh Produce, endorse Keith Snow for mayor and support him for running for mayor of Hollister.

Letter: Snow would serve city well

I have known Keith for over three years and he is a respectful and intelligent man. He became involved in our community shortly after moving here and attended many city and county meetings to learn about Hollister and San Benito County. He has an engineering background and suffered a very unfortunate industrial accident that has left him partially crippled and with a speech impediment but it definitely did not affect his brain or his interest in making a difference in our community. If you have read any of his letters to the editor you are aware of what I am saying. He will serve our city well if he is elected. He wants the city to be fiscally responsible and is very interested in making a difference for our youth. My vote is for Keith Snow.
