The Saddle Horse Show Parade will kick off the rodeo weekend Thursday with a flurry of horses, floats and food.

The downtown tradition will start around 6 p.m. and it will lead straight into a fiesta at the Veterans Memorial Building. The three-hour parade and fiesta event will have food vendors throughout the county, face painting booths and a rock-climbing wall.

The parade route will start on Monterey Street and cut down San Benito Street to Fifth Street. The parade itself is expected to last an hour.

The San Benito County Chamber of Commerce is expecting hundreds of county residents to attend and celebrate the first day of the festivities.

The parade is the first event of the weekend that helps celebrate the rodeo that has been in existence since 1929. The actual rodeo will start the following day at Bolado Park and run through the weekend.

The parade is expected to have 75 to 80 entries by Thursday, said Bryn Calderon of the chamber of commerce. The parade won’t have a window-judging portion this year.

If you would like to enter a horse into the parade, call the chamber of commerce at 637-5315.
