For some years research has found that good parents have children who are happier, get along better with other kids, do better in school, and have higher job success (See Baumrind, Parenting Styles).

This research suggests that good parents are those who:

Provide high levels of warmth and caring to their children (lots of love)

Have consistent limits with their children (not always saying yes)

Communicate with their children about what is happening in their lives

When rules are violated, children are provided with clear, consistent, consequences.

Most importantly, make time to truly be with your child.

As all parents know, sometimes it is hard to be a good parent, but it is clear that those who are have children that are happier and more successful their whole lives.
