Our first Red Phone caller of the week, a disabled Hollister
man, asked the Crimson Crusader to help ease his weekend breakfast
woes. Our caller said that he was having trouble navigating the
sidewalks along Fourth Street on the way to the Country Rose Cafe.
He told the Crimson Crusader that many people were parking in
driveways blocking the sidewalk and forcing him onto the busy
street.
Our first Red Phone caller of the week, a disabled Hollister man, asked the Crimson Crusader to help ease his weekend breakfast woes. Our caller said that he was having trouble navigating the sidewalks along Fourth Street on the way to the Country Rose Cafe. He told the Crimson Crusader that many people were parking in driveways blocking the sidewalk and forcing him onto the busy street.
The Crimson Crusader made a call over to Hollister Code Enforcement officer Mike Chambless to see what could be done. Chambless said it is illegal for cars parked in driveways to block the sidewalk. He said he would look into the problem right away. Chambless said that if the parking violations continued to impede pedestrian traffic on the sidewalk, he could potentially send letters to homeowners or assess fines for illegally parked motorists. He also said residents could call the Hollister Police Department to report parking violations at 636-4330 ext. 141 or 636-4331, if the problem needs to be addressed immediately.
Reader Input Welcome
Our next Red Phone caller, a Hollister woman, passed on several issues, including the Old Fremont School building and teen pregnancy, that she would like to see the Free Lance address in coming issues. The Crimson Crusader always likes to hear from readers about what they would like to have covered in the paper. So, duly noted, dear caller, and thanks for your suggestions.
Monstrous Potholes
Our final Red Phone call of the week from a Hollister man concerned about two potholes at the intersection of Nash Road and San Benito Street in Hollister near the high school. Our caller said the potholes have gotten progressively larger and more troublesome over the last few months and implored the Crimson Crusader’s help in getting them repaired.
The Crimson Crusader made a call to one of the busiest men in town, Hollister Public Works Street Supervisor Ray Rojas, to see what could be done. Rojas said road repairs at that intersection would fall under the jurisdiction of Caltrans, since San Benito Street is a state thoroughfare. Rojas said he would forward our caller’s concerns along with the location of the potholes to his counterparts at Caltrans.
