Balers celebrate Homecoming
By Hayley Guenther, Special to the Pinnacle
James Maxwell, the principal of Gilroy High School, joined other
Gilroy administrators in donning San Benito High School jerseys
during the San Benito High School homecoming rally Nov. 7. GHS
administrators stood in front of SBHS students to honor a bet
Maxwell made with San Benito High School Principal Krystal
Lomanto.
The two schools competed with each other to see which students
could get a higher Academic Performance Index (API) score on the
Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) tests. SBHS students beat
GHS students by seven points with an API score of 728
– a 25-point jump from the previous year.
During the rally, Maxwell presented Lomanto with a STAR
Challenge trophy. The bet is on again for the 2008-2009 school
year.
Administrators said they hope a little friendly competition will
inspire the students to try their best.
