AVID class projects a success

Students enrolled in the AVID classes at San Benito High School chose two local nonprofits to benefit from their class projects. One class collected 905 pounds of food to donate to the Community Food Bank of San Benito County. The students also volunteered at the Food Bank on a Saturday morning.

“Their goal was to donate at least 500 pounds or cans of food,” said Marlene Villegas, an AVID teacher, in an e-mail. “The whole projected lasted four weeks only.”

A second class worked to collect donations for Pet Friends Rescue and the Hollister Animal Shelter. The students collected 368 pet supply items for the shelter. They also collected $150 to donate to the shelter. Some of the students volunteered at the shelter during one class period. They cleaned kennels, and fed and played with animals.
