Hollister teachers complete masters
Alec and Nicole Griffin, two Hollister teachers, are graduating
from California State University, Monterey Bay on May 16, each with
a master’s in public policy through the Panetta Institute.
To graduate, students have to do some kind of public policy
project. Alec’s project is titled

School Choice: The future of education policy in the Hollister
School District,

about how the district can comply with No Child Left Behind and
still serve students, parents and teachers fairly. Nicole’s project
is titled

Tourism Development in the City of Hollister,

and looks at how Hollister may begin to intentionally capture
some of the economic benefits of tourism. According to a press
release from CSUMB, her report included a fiscal analysis of the
Hollister motorcycle rally that was used by the City Council.
In addition to teaching and working on her master’s in public
policy, Nicole is also completing a teaching credential. Alex is a
special education teacher.

Renteria graduates basic training

Army Sgt. David G. Renteria has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches, armed and unarmed combat, and field maneuvers and tactics.

Renteria is a 1995 graduate of San Benito High School.
