Private completes basic training
HOLLISTER
– Army National Guard Pvt. Thomas G. Birmingham has graduated
from basic training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. During nine
weeks of training he studied the Army mission, history, tradition
and core values, and physical fitness. Birmingham also learned
about military weapons, chemical warfare
and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, and other necessary
training for combat.
He is the son of Tom Birmingham of Hollister and graduated from
Santa Clara High School in 2003.

Student wins ag scholarship
HOLLISTER – Joey Mancino has been awarded a $1,500 scholarship as part of the annual Commitment to Agriculture Scholarship program. He is one of 100 students to receive the award, based on academic acheivment and leadership in agriculture.
Mancino plans to attend California State Polytechnic Univeristy – San Luis Obispo in the fall to study veterinary science for large animals.
The scholarship program is open to seniors in all 50 states and is offered by Monsanto Company, a provider of technology-based solutions and agricultural products, and the National Association of Farm Broadcasting.
Fowles arrival
Kodi Ann Fowles was born to Jamie and Jonathan Fowles at Hazel Hawkins Hopsital on May 29. She weighed in at 5 lbs., 14 oz.
