Cattlewomen select scholarship recipients, Cowbelle of the
year
The San Benito Cattlewomen awarded two scholarships to students
who started college this fall. Jake Hunter, the son of Rich and
Lizz Hunter, was awarded $1,000. Grace Tobias, the daughter of
Charles and Lisa Tobias, also was awarded $1,000.
At the Cattlewomen’s annual summer barbecue on July 17, the
group announced the Cowbelle of the Year. The award went to Sara
Mae DeRosa, who was born and raised in San Benito County where she
has worked with cattle all her life. She has been involved with the
cattlewomen for more than 40 years as an active member and board
member. She is a promoter of the local beef industry and loves
learning about her family history as well as the history of the
county. The group can count on her to recall the history of the
local cattlewomen’s chapter. She also enjoys spending time with her
grandchildren.
The San Benito Cattlewomen are involved in Ag in the Classroom,
the Red Cross Blood Bank, the county fair and beef promotion. They
host annual fundraisers to support their activities. Some of the
events include an annual Pedro party in February and the Oct. 23
fashion show at San Juan Oaks Golf and Country Club.
The San Benito Cattlewomen will be hosting the sixth annual Fall
Fashion Show and Luncheon Oct. 23, at the San Juan Oaks Golf and
Country Club. Tickets are $25 per person. The event includes lunch,
raffle prizes and fashions from Ranchers Feed, She’s, Tres Jolie
