Army Pvt. Tyler J. Gregory has graduated from the Infantryman One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. The training consists of Basic Infantry Training and Advanced Individual Training.
During the nine weeks of basic combat training, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons employment, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid skills, and Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experienced use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.
The Advanced Individual Training course is designed to train infantry soldiers to perform reconnaissance operations; employ, fire and recover anti-personnel and anti-tank mines; locate and neutralize land mines and operate target and sight equipment; operate and maintain communications equipment and radio networks; construct field firing aids for infantry weapons; and perform infantry combat exercises and dismounted battle drills, which includes survival procedures in a nuclear, biological or chemical contaminated area.
Gregory is the son of Stacie McGrady of Comstock Road, in Hollister.
He is a 2009 graduate of San Benito High School.
Sacred Heart announces honorees
HOLLISTER – The Sacred Heart Parish School Alumni Foundation has named this year’s honorees. Mrs. Norma (Trebino) Martinetti was a graduate of Sacred Heart Parish School in 1935. She was a nurse in WWII and was instrumental in developing the Pittsburg Art Commission. She volunteered at Hazel Hawkins for 22 years.
Mr. Chuck Filice graduated from Sacred Heart in 1951. As a senior at San Benito High School he was selected as Star State Farmer and was later elected as the Regional President of FFA. Mr. Filice’s children attended Sacred Heart and during their attendance he spent 10 years on the Parent Board and established the school’s annual fundraiser that still exists today.
Mr. John Erkman, class of 1961 and a graduate of Bellarmine and Santa Clara University, returned to Sacred Heart Parish School to teach middle school for several years. After leaving Sacred Heart, Erkman had a long and distinguished career in education for more than 30 years, teaching in both Catholic and public schools.
The Sacred Heart Foundation inaugural dinner benefiting the scholarship program for Sacred Heart Parish School celebrated these individuals who have taken their Catholic faith to heart on Saturday, November 14th at San Juan Oaks Golf Club.
