Hollister – Can you spell “chrysanthemum,” “lieutenant” and “millionaire”?

If you can, and you’re a county resident between fourth and eighth grade, now’s the time to show off your S-K-I-L-L-S.

The preliminary round of the San Benito County’s 10th annual Spelling Bee is being held tonight for fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders and Wednesday for seventh- and eighth-graders. Both events will be at 6:30pm at Ladd Lane Elementary School.

This first section of the spelling bee is a 50-word written test. The top 25 contestants from each group will go on to the final county Spelling Bee on March 20 and 21. The top two students will go on to represent San Benito County spellers to the state.

Interested students should go to Ladd Lane prepared with two sharpened pencils and a signed permission slip from their parents.
