City Hall

Hollister City Council members Tuesday will discuss proposed annexations of private property into the city, including such locations as Dassel/Mackie Rental; Gay Lee Products, Inc.; and Award Homes, Inc.
The council meeting is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. at Hollister City Hall, 375 Fifth St., in downtown Hollister. It is Tuesday instead of the usual Monday due to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
“Two of them are relatively small properties” along Fairview Road, said Bill Avera, the interim city manager, in reference to the Dassel/Mackie Rental and Gay Lee Products spaces.
He said the purpose of the series of annexations is to refine city-limit lines, and to clarify what is county property and what is city property. Single-family homes eventually would get built on those smaller lots, he said.
Award Homes, Inc., on San Benito Street, is the largest property. It is a 20-acre piece that would feature commercial development, Avera said.
In addition to annexations, the council also will consider a resolution proposing to begin construction on an underground fiber-optic cable that would connect downtown city and county offices with police and airport facilities in the north end of the city. The cable would improve internal communications between the two areas, according to the city.
Officials also will consider appointments to various council committees, as well as a resolution to officially change the city ordinance to reflect the new political makeup of the city and include an elected at-large mayor and four council members.
